Topic:                                    GO YE THEREFORE (PART III)

Texts:                                                Jn. 20:21; Matt. 28:18-20

Go Ye Therefore, which has been the title of our Charismatic Hour messages for some time now, is a farewell command Jesus gave His disciples at the end of His ministry on earth. So far, we have looked into the background and authority of the statement, and last week we looked at the injunction in the context of the pre- and post- resurrection ministries of our LORD Jesus Christ.

Today, we shall look at some realities of the statement, under the following subtitles: (1) The Purpose Of The Statement (2) The Faith And Assurance It Commands.

The Purpose Of The Statement

Jesus left His throne in heaven for the earth solely for the purpose of saving mankind from the power of sin and the devils (Lk.19:10; 4:17-21, 32-39). This purpose had to be sustained after Jesus had gone, and in the generations to come. Jesus had to raise disciples to carry on with the mission after Him to occupy in His room until He comes back. To those He chose, He gave the injunction: Go Ye Therefore (Lk. 19:13; Jn. 20:21; Matt. 28:18).

The purpose of  the statement therefore is to charge His disciples (past and present), to go everywhere men can be found, delivering them from the power of sin and the devils, and destroying the yokes of the devils and liberating men who may be under such yokes (Isa. 60:1-3; Lk. 4:18-21).

The Faith And Assurance It (The Statement)Commands

Jesus Christ did the underground work before He came up with the injunction go ye therefore. An analysis of that statement shows that Jesus was speaking on the basis of an already established fact (Matt. 28:18). As it were, He was saying I have fought the necessary battle, and won the necessary victory. I have fulfilled all the necessary obligations and protocols. I have paid the necessary price to the last dime and nothing is outstanding. Go ye therefore on this note. The following facts of the Bible will anchor the argument: His last declaration (Jn.19:30), the rending of veil and the release of saints (Matt.27:50-54), His post-resurrection appearance (Lk.24:39-48). Jesus paid the price to the last dime symbolized in the last drop of blood in Him being spilled (Jn. 19:32-35).

The slave master, wicked one, Devil doesn’t have any legitimate demand. The last dime has been paid. The enemy has no alternative than to release that which has been paid for (consider one who has paid for a piece of cloth and sends his child or servant to pick it up from the seller. The seller has no right to keep the cloth from the accredited servant of the purchaser; the servant, simply needs to go and ask for the cloth).

In this light, having paid the price to the last dime, Jesus then gave the strong command Go Ye Therefore, rescue the perishing, heal the sick, deliver the oppressed (Matt. 28:18-20; Mk. 16:15-20).

Anyone who refuses to exercise this authority has him/herself to blame. Remember that as they went everywhere preaching the Word, The LORD worked with them, confirming the words with signs following.  This truth cannot be over emphasized. Go now for your own testimonies.
