Ask Me Now What I Shall Do For You

Passage: 1Kings 3 : 3-13 ; 2Kings 2 : 1-13
Service Type:

Bible Text: 1Kings 3 : 3-13 ; 2Kings 2 : 1-13 | The Watchman Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement has gone through a period of tests akin to that which Elisha went with Prophet Elijah. The stiff opposition that the GS was divinely informed about in the year 1996 has been apparent in all areas of the Ministry amidst the harsh economic weather.

Notwithstanding the seeming appearance of a stall, the word of the Lord came to the man of God saying that the Watchman is intact and that there shall be voices and activities of celebration and prosperity (Jer.33:10-12). The Lord is now telling the Watchmen that have followed his servant to now ask what He shall do for them. Under three points we will approach this question.  (1) What Prompted The Question (2) The Concise Answer Given (3) The Prompt Response That Followed.

What Prompted The Question (1 Kgs. 3:3-4; 2Kgs. 2:1-6)

Given the relationship of Elisha and the LORD and Elijah=s response to Elisha=s demand, it could be inferred that the LORD through Elijah, posed the question: AAsk what I shall do for you.@  to Elisha, just as the LORD Himself posed a similar question directly to Solomon.  The question therefore was prompted by the love and commitment exhibited by Solomon and Elisha (consider 1 Kgs. 3:3-4; 2 Kgs. 2:2,4,6).

The love and commitment of the LORD and His cause is not in question, as is manifest in their prompt and selfless response to His urgent clarion calls several times.

Like unto Solomon and Elisha the LORD asks as it were to the Watchmen, AAsk Me Now What I Shall Do For You oh! Watchmen@?

The Concise Answer Given (1 Kgs. 3;6-9; 2 Kgs. 2:9; Jams 4:2-3)

Solomon and Elisha answered very articulately the questions posed unto them.  One unique thing about their answers was their interest in moving forward the cause and programme of God which they have come to embrace.  Solomon asked for wisdom and understanding to further the cause of God with the nation Israel (God=s chosen nation).  Elisha on his part knew that Elijah his master was departing from him.  He also knew that the office and ministry of Elijah was going to fall on him eventually, hence he asked for the double portion of Elijah=s Spirit.  He must have also considered the challenges ahead of the successor of the great prophet of fire and rain, hence his calculated answer.

Beloved, what word do you have today for the Lord=s question.  The right answer will surely attract the required divine response.

The Prompt Response That Followed. (1 Kgs. 3:10-13; 2 Kgs. 2:10; Ps. 50:23)

For every question posed by the Lord there is an answer.  Those who answer aright usually attract His prompt response.  One spectacular thing about the LORD=s response to appropriate answers is that He goes beyond the requested to include things that are essential though not requested for (1 Kgs. 3:10-13; Eph.3:20).  Elisha not only saw Elijah as he was translated in the chariot of fire, but also got the mantle released to him.  Solomon was unequalled in his wisdom, and Elisha=s bones even after death raised the dead.

Our appropriate response to the LORD=s question today will surely attract an overflowing and overwhelming response from above.
